Congratulations to our Old Tom! It won Top Gold and a Best In Class Trophy!

Last night was a BIG night for Settlers Spirits at the 2020 Australian Gin Awards!

Taking home the BEST IN CLASS TROPHY and TOP GOLD for our Old Tom Gin – the makers were thrilled to have one of their original blends recognised at such coveted national awards.

The 'Old Tom' style has been around since gin itself. Steeped in history, modern day 'Old Tom's' cannot be coloured or flavoured artificially and are either botanically intense or botanically sweetened, creating a gin that is rich and punchy. As one of the most popular styles of modern day gin, the category is hotly contested making this win even sweeter for Settlers Spirits.

The Australian Gin Awards are hosted by the Australian Gin Distillers Association. Their vision is to shine a light on the excellence of gin production, concentrating on gin only! This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the judging process was conducted remotely but still able to be conducted successfully. With the continued growth and success of Australia’s ever-growing craft spirits industry, the awards are open to gin distillers from across Australia and New Zealand and grow in stature each year. It is the gin gong to win!

Rowland Short, owner of the boutique McLaren Vale based gin brand, said:

Many people make this style, but few get it right. We are chuffed to be recognised by the Australian Gin Distillers Association and are rightly proud of our Old Tom

Recognition at these awards represents yet another exciting step for our brand. It’s awards like these that give boutique artisans like Settlers Spirits the opportunity to be noticed as a player in the Australian gin and spirits world, an industry that grows in depth and breadth each year and in which we aim to achieve a position of long term standing with our unique products.”

What the judges wrote:

A really well balanced gin, bright and lifted nose. Appreciated the juniper forward nature of this gin and pleasant spice.”
